Lunenburg Music Aiders
Welcome

The Lunenburg Music Aiders is a volunteer organization whose sole aim is to support the music programs in the Lunenburg public schools through volunteering and fundraising efforts. Our volunteering and fundraising supports the Lunenburg music programs through purchasing of capital items like music, uniforms, risers, etc., and also through volunteer efforts to help assist in supervision of rehearsals, practices, and music-related functions.

New Session of the After-School Lesson Program

The Lunenburg Public School District in conjunction with the Lunenburg Music Aiders will be offering a new 10 week session of after-school music lessons. The goal of the program is to introduce students to instrumental and vocal lessons at an earlier age and to support the existing band and chorus programs at the middle and high schools. The program is open to students in grades 3–12, from beginners to experienced students preparing for District or State tryouts.

The 10-week session begins February 23rd and extends through May 14th. The sign-up sheet and payment are due back to school by February 5th.

See our After-School Lessons page for more information.

Ledger Article on Band Camp
Band Camp

What do approximately 45 students from the middle school 8th grade through the LHS 12th grade (and their teacher) do in 90-plus degree heat for a week in August, before school commences and the football season starts? They go to band camp. We, as parents and fans of Lunenburg High School Blue Knights football, get to enjoy the half-time show provided by the LHS Marching Band. What we don't see is all the hard work and dedication that these kids, and Caryn Katz, the high school music director, put into their Friday night performances. Before the camp session is even open, members have already met several times over the summer for introductions and practice sessions. Band camp is held on the football field, rain or shine. The week's schedule includes 3 days, 8am - 8pm with a 2-hour supper break; another 8am - 4pm; and Friday 10 - 6 with a short "preview" performance for family and friends on the last night of camp. This gives the kids a taste of performing live and to show off what they have accomplished in a very short period of time.

The 2009 Lunenburg High School Marching Band will perform at every Blue Knights home game, the Homecoming Parade, as well as UMass Band Day, the USSBA Marching Competition, and this year, they will also march in the Westminster Parade. And, look, and listen, for some of them at the Town Fair.

So, come out to the football field this evening, August 21 at 6pm to sneak a peek and show your support for our Lunenburg High School Marching Band. This year, one of the goals of the LHS band is to purchase a new marimba to enhance the percussion unit of the marching and concert bands. Any donation to benefit the entire Lunenburg music program can be made through the Lunenburg Music Aiders, c/o Lunenburg High School, 1079 Mass. Ave., or visit their web site at www.lunenburgmusic.org. You can also help support the music program by visiting the snack bar and purchasing food during any Blue Knights' home game. Go Blue Knights! Go Band!

Scholarship Forms

The Lunenburg Music Aiders funds two scholarship programs. The Senior Scholarship is for graduating seniors who will be enrolled in a continuing education program working towards a music-related degree. The Summer Scholarship is for current members of the music ensembles to fund private lessons for the summer.

Once on This Island

Students from Lunenburg High School performed the musical Once on This Island in three public performances on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 7th, 8th and 9th, in the Lunenburg High School Auditorium.

Once on This Island is a Broadway musical with book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and music by Stephen Flaherty. It adapts the story of the Little Mermaid and also contains thematic elements from Romeo and Juliet. The musical is set on a Caribbean island and tells the story of Ti Moune (Olivia Arciprete), a peasant girl, who falls in love with the wealthy Daniel (Tommy Anderson).

The lively and colorful showcase of student acting, singing, and dancing was directed by Lunenburg High School Music Director Caryn Katz. Once on This Island was presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International.

Pops Concert

Students from the Lunenburg High School Band, Jazz Band, Chorus, and A Cappella group performed at the Lunenburg High School Gym on Friday, May 15th to a sold out crowd.

The audience was seated at tables in traditional pops fashion as servers from the Turkey Hill Middle School music program served drinks and refreshments. The Pops Concert is always a fan favorite.
