Things to Know
All band rehearsals will being promptly at the starting
times specified. For all band camp rehearsals, unless
otherwise informed, we begin on the football field, in
our marching block, which will be demonstrated on the
first day. All leaders must arrive in the music room at
least 30 minutes early to organize the details of the
day. It is imperative that all band members arrive at
least 15 minutes early so that the entire band begins
together ON TIME!!! This will be the expectation
throughout the year. It is good habit to have in all
aspects of life, so let's start now.
"TO BE EARLY, IS TO BE ON TIME. TO BE ON TIME, IS TO BE LATE"
What should I do before rehearsals so that I am well prepared?
- Practice my music as often as possible, working on notes (fingerings), rhythms, dynamics,
articulations, tempo, and pitch
-
- Go to the arrangers publishing company website to listen to a recording of
our field show music. Play along with the recording to get used to what my part will sound like with the
rest of the band
- Contact Ms. Katz or an upperclassman in the band to get extra help on the music. (Don't be afraid to ask for help!)
- Get lots of rest so I can give 100% of my energy to rehearsals.
- Eat healthy meals to stay energized
- Stay active (walk, run, swim, play ball, etc) to build up the endurance needed to be productive throughout band camp
- Drink plenty of water to remain hydrated during the long rehearsals and have a water bottle
prepared to bring with me
- Watch the weather forecast and dress accordingly for all rehearsals
What will I need to bring to each day of band camp?
- Instrument/Equipment
- Sneakers & socks (ABSOLUTELY NO SANDALS!)
- Hat/visor
- Music & folder
- Water bottle
- Sunglasses
- Sunscreen
- Pencil
- Rain gear
- Lunch
- Snacks
- Bug repellent for evening rehearsals
All band camp rehearsals will consist of a significant amount of marching outside, RAIN OR SHINE!
Marching in the rain can be lots of fun, as long as you are prepared.
If you are unable to attend any part of band camp,
please let me know immediately Attendance is
required for all rehearsals, but I understand that
extenuating circumstances do sometimes occur. I will
need an accurate count of participating students and the
correct instrumentation of the band no later than July
1st. Please be sure to make any communication regarding
band camp attendance as early as possible.
